Sulphide
Sulphide
Hydrogen Sulphide (H2S) is present in varying concentrations in many groundwater well aquifer supplies. It is formed from Sulphur containing compounds such as Sulphate which are reduced by anaerobic bacteria in the aquifer. Sulphides are also used in the textile and tanning industries. Its presence is undesirable in effluents discharged into water courses as they inhibit oxygen utilisation.
