Rosin, US Naval Stores
Historically D509 was the Standard Test Method of Sampling and Grading Rosin. This test method covered the procedures for sampling and determining the grade of rosin delivered in commercial bags, barrels, drums or molten form. Although developed for rosin, this method can also be used for the grading of modified rosins and rosin based resins.
D509-20 has effectively been superseded by ASTM D6166 Standard Test Method for Color of Pine Chemicals and Related Products (Instrumental Determination of Gardner Color). This test method covers the quantitative determination of the colour of clear, yellow/brown, and liquid materials using colour measuring instruments. The results may be invalid if other materials are used. The test uses the Gardner colour scale described in Test Method D1544. This test method applies to pine chemical products including tall oil, tall oil fatty acids, rosin, and related products.
As a consequence of this change and a subsequent fall in demand for Rosin Colour Measurement, we have discontinued our product measuring the Rosin Scale (according to D509-20). We are pleased to offer several superior alternatives to measure the Gardner Colour Scale:
Gardner Scale 3000 Comparator
AF228 Gardner Comparator 3000 (ASTM D1544, ISO 4630)
Supplied with 2 discs containing coloured glass filters traceable to ISO 17025, 2 test tubes, AF 228/T
Note: A benchtop visual Colour Measurement instrument. Thus subjective as it is reliant on the judgement, experience and colour vision of the operator.
EC 2000 Gardner Kit (No Bluetooth)
Note: An automatic hand-held Colour Measurement instrument. Non-subjective and thus not reliant on the judgement, experience and colour vision of the operator.
PFXi-195/2 + RCMSi Pack
Note: An automatic Benchtop Colour Measurement instrument. Very robust and upgradable to measure multiple colour scales. Non-subjective and thus not reliant on the judgement, experience and colour vision of the operator.
