La circolazione dell'acqua di raffreddamento richiede trattamenti chimici accuratamente selezionati. Questo contribuisce a ridurre al minimo la contaminazione microbiologica, ad osservare elementi critici come gli scambiatori di calore e a impedire la corrosione.

Per essere più efficaci, i trattamenti devono essere mantenuti entro specifici parametri di controllo, in quanto un inibitore in eccesso può essere dannoso quanto un inibitore a basse dosi.
